Anyone tried the Mooncup?

Post  sunset30 on Thu May 28, 2009 12:37 pm

Anyone tried it?

Anyone use one regularly?

Mine just arrived today - with my eco balls (which are currently doing their thing in the washing machine - I swear if they work I will be able to afford a holiday on the savings!)

I really think the mooncup is a good idea, and will save a fortune if I can get on with it.

I don't currently need to use it, but it does seem a little intimidating, and tbh, I can't remember far enough back to think whether tampons were this intimidating when I was 14?

Wow! never heard of it before, it looks good. Is it messy when you have to take it out though?? I'm a bit (DH would say alot) clumsy.

I hear it's not messy. I guess one would need some practice though.
I shall let you know, although I am not usually a one for posting about such things and might be a little coy about it!

Have to say I am impressed with my first wash with the eco balls though!
I have clean, fresh smelling clothes (even towels and JAmie's wet in the night sleeping bag) and have calculated a VERY conservative saving of £165 over the 3 years worth of kit I have in detergent and softner ALONE - PLUS the very reduced wash time and I'm £££ in!

I bought one.
Then a week later I took a pregnancy test.

I've only ever heard great things about them, and I can't wait to use mine. It's been sitting in its little bag for 8 months, the poor thing, begging to be used.

I'd advise you to practise putting it in now, before you need it, just so when the time comes you don't suddenly realise you don't know what you're doing. Get comfy with it before you have to put it in amid cramps and mess and stuff.

Yes I use one and think it's brilliant. It has really helped with my cramps too - used to suffer quite badly and now the difference is incredible. It took a little while to get it comfy - I had to cut quite a bit of the stalk off before it was just right. I seem to remember that it took a couple of months before I was totally happy with it, so stick with it for a couple of cycles before deciding if it's for you or not.

Thank you!
YOur post has given me some confidence that I WILL be able to use it, so I am a bit looking forward to giving it a try now! I also know to take my time getting used to it, and not throw it away at the first problem, which is reassuring

Just joined and my first post is about mooncups!! lol

Ive been using one for well over a year now and the main bits of advice i would give are make sure its wet when you use it and remember to break the suction before you remove it.

Oh and its great when you go swimming as well.

Thank you for that - Good advice!
I'm glad it's good during swimming - hoping it'll cope at the gym too!

Hello

Just wanted to say hello to Polly - welcome to the board! How did you find us?

On the subject of mooncup, gotta say I am intrigued (and have been for a while) but have never had the confidence to try it. Sunset, will you let me know how you get on?

I haven't used mine since my baby was born, before that I found it was a little too big for me (they only come in post baby and pre baby) but I'm thinking of trying to use the same one again as it might actually fit now. Everyone I know who has one that does fit raves about them. Word of warning, be careful if you have an IUD. I know somebody who dislodged her IUD whilst taking hers out.

I think the trick is taking it out slowly... I would assume the friend who ripped hers out it was by taking it out too quickly and the suction being too strong... It's not something I especially like to think about. It sounds like it must have hurt.

I love love mine, had one for about five years now, both pre and post babies. Works far better than other things, I know it's sterile, (tampons are NOT) and it saves me tons of money!

i used one before last 2 pregnancies and love it! Took me a bit of time to get confidence in it so used eco pant liners sometimes so that i could feel safe...but it is the best purchase ever!

I feel so much cleaner and fresher using one and will be back to it when periods return after chilli is born Smile

I know it sounds a bit grim ladies but once you get used to removing it and the folding action lol also once you get the stick thing the right length.. (i had an 'ouch' day at first as left it oo long coz was concerned about it getting stuck lol). If i was out and had to use pulic toilets I just emptied it into toilet and waited til home for a wash of it...i never had any bad reactions - which i have had to tampons and towels...and no chaffing from towels on your legs...no worry about it being visible and no worry about toxic shock...all big bonuses i say
